The NKDF Society held its final meeting of the year on March 25, 2008 where the more recent successful proponents were:

• $30,000 for the Village of Burns Lake to go toward the construction of entrance areas for the Spirit Square – Nourse Park project.
• $5,880 to Regional District of Bulkley Nechako to assist with marketing and beautification for the community of Fort Fraser.
• $2,500 to CFDC of Fraser Fort George to help bring the Economic Development Association of British Columbia (EDABC) 2008 Annual Conference to north.

"The work and contributions of this organization are important to northern communities," said Bulkley Valley-Stikine MLA Dennis MacKAY. "The most recent announcement and funding to help with the Burns Lake Spirit Square program is an example of one of many financial contributions made by the NKDF to help our communities become better places to live and work."  

"The NKDF Society is an important part of Northern British Columbia," said Prince George-Omineca MLA John Rustad. "They have invested in the stability and the future success of our communities."

Colleen Nyce, Rio Tinto Alcan’s Manager of Corporate Affairs offered, “Rio Tinto Alcan is proud of the great community and economic development work that is accomplished in the region as a result of the Fund created by the Company and the Province. $700,000 is a tremendous influx of cash into community's resources and it is rewarding to see the investment dollars put to use in this way".

The Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society was jointly established in 1997 with a combined contribution of $15 million by the government of British Columbia and Alcan Inc. The Fund’s investment area includes lands impacted by the original Kemano project and focuses on those communities in the Nechako and Haisla regions of the north.

The Society encourages applications from local governments and legally incorporated non-profit organizations. NKDF invests in projects that create sustainable employment, diversify the economy, and improve the basic infrastructure needed for community stability, quality of life and growth.
