Well, this success story throws back a little bit. We started planning for the expansion at the Burns Lake Public Library in the early 2000's. It was an ambitious project - double the size of the library!! The board and staff at that time, worked hard to figure out what was needed, put together plans of what the expansion would like and then - THE BIG ONE - raise money to make the dream a reality. There were bumps and detours along the way, but in the end, it happened!! The funding from NKDF was instrumental in helping us to secure other grants and donations. Without it, the story might have had a very different ending.
We were so proud of the completed building and were happy to celebrate along with our community in September of 2007. It's hard to believe it's been over 10 years that the library has enjoyed the expansion. I know there are probably days that the current staff think more room is needed. But the number of programs that have been delivered and the amount of time that Burns Lake and area residents have spent within those walls is such a value to our community. Yes, books to borrow and knowledge to accumulate. But also, a warm, welcoming space for babies to seniors and everyone in between. You don't need to have a reason to be there. You don't have to pay to stay. Just go on in and use this wonderful community resource. This is priceless!!!
Thank you, Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund for being a part of that.
