At the AGM held on May 29, 2013, the Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society Board of Directors elected Wayne Salewski as the incoming Chair.
The board of directors is pleased to welcome Wayne. He brings with him four decades of volunteering experience in the Vanderhoof community, his service as an Alderman and a background in serving on a variety of regional and provincial boards.
Outgoing chair Rosanne Murray served on the NKDF Board for four years, two of those as chair. The Board appreciates the passion and dedication with which she served the communities of NKDF.
Wayne Salewski said, “I am pleased to serve as NKDF Board Chair, and for the opportunity to work with community stakeholders throughout the Nechako, Lakes and Kitamaat regions.
A longtime resident of the Nechako Valley, Salewski retired from the Ministry of Forests after 30 years, and is also current Chair of the Murray Creek Stream Restoration group and founding Director of the Nechako Environment and Water Stewardship Society.
"I’m confident that Wayne Salewski will do an excellent job as the Chair of the NKDF Board of Directors, and I would like to congratulate him on his appointment" said Nechako Lakes MLA and Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation John Rustad.
The Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society was jointly established in 1997 with a combined contribution of $15 million by the government of British Columbia and the former Alcan Inc., now Rio Tinto Alcan. The Fund’s investment area includes lands impacted by the original Kemano project and focuses on those communities in the Ootsa, Lakes, Nechako and Haisla regions of the north.
The Society encourages applications from local governments and legally incorporated non-profit organizations. NKDF invests in projects that create sustainable employment, diversify the economy, and improve the basic infrastructure needed for community stability, quality of life and growth.
