The Fraser Lake & Area Menshed Society we feel has been a great success, largely due to the grant for our shop addition from the NKDF. Without the grant we would not have had the courage to proceed with its completion.
We have found the NKDF extremely helpful and especially want to thank Britta Boudreau for her help and assistance, as well as the directors for their encouragement.
Since the spring we have been quite active in our community, despite summer coming and many of us having family and especially grandkids to visit! We have been able to donate $500 to the Fraser Lake Elem-Sec School Breakfast Program; $500 to our Crisis Center and $500 to Autumn Services for services to seniors. There will be more donations as our funds permit. Some of the projects we have completed, or are working on are: carport for a senior whose carport collapsed last winter; wheelchair ramp for a disabled senior; repairs to trophies for clubs; storage containers for the Pickleball group; installing a dishwasher for a senior; Gyprocing for a member; helped cleaning out some seniors homes; helped people move furniture and belongings as well other smaller helps and repairs. While we have about 30 members, our active group is about 12; who all have homes to look after and may not be in the best of health, so we keep busy.
We are planning to have more social gatherings and possibly games or card nights as we feel these will be very beneficial to our members and may draw new members.
Thanks to the NKDF for giving us the funds and courage to undertake our shop project!
Thanks – John Stafford and FL&AMS
