The Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society Board of Directors approved $50,385 in grant funding for six new projects. 

Francois Tchesinkut Recreation Commission was granted $25,000 toward renovations of the Francois Lake Hall. A heavily utilized community hall that has been in operation for almost a century, the hall is used year-round for live music events, charity events such as the Terry Fox Run, weddings, reunions and banquets. The project includes re-roofing the hall and adding canopy covering to the wheelchair access ramps.

The Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society Board of Directors approved $53,728 in grant funding for four new projects. 

The Lakes Outdoor Recreation Society (LORS) was granted $18,728. The Ootsa Lake campground is currently being expanded by 20 sites, due to increased demand. Tourists and locals will now have alternative sites to camp at during the peak season.  The grant funds will be used to install three outhouses, including one wheelchair accessible outhouse at the expanded campsite.

Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society granted $25,000 to Carrier Sekani Family Services to assist with the development of Foundry Burns Lake.

Foundry is a province-wide network of integrated health and wellness services for young people between the ages of 12 and 24.

FEB 22, 2023

The Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society Board of Directors approved funding for three new projects in Burns Lake. 

$15,000 was approved for the Ride Burns Mountain Biking Association for the Summer Maintenance Work Crew project. With this funding the 100Km network of trails will be assessed and repairs completed. The Biking trails at Boer Mountain began in 2005 with a vision and a grant of $3,360 from NKDF for a feasibility study.

The Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society Board of Directors approved funding for four new projects.

$50,000 was approved for the Village of Fraser Lake for the Curling Rink/Community Hall Development project.

JUN 14, 2022

At the first Board meeting of the new funding cycle, NKDF Board of Directors approved $55,000 in grants for four new projects. 

The District of Vanderhoof received a grant of $15,000 to upgrade the emergency lighting at the airport.  The Vanderhoof airport plays a critical role in connecting the region to the rest of the province including serving as an access point for medical transport and firefighting services. Upgrades to the emergency lighting will ensure there are no interruptions to services.

The first two projects of the new NKDF funding cycle have been approved through the under $5,000 Program. The Burns Lake and District Chamber of Commerce and the Burns Lake Youth Soccer Association will both receive grants.

The Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society board of Directors approved funding for five new projects.

$50,000 was approved for the Village of Fraser Lake to upgrade the docks at the White Swan public boat launch on the shores of Fraser Lake. The upgrade includes replacing the current wood piling and top rail system with a new steel piling system. The new system will allow the docks to be installed up to twelve weeks earlier in the season. Additionally, lighting will be installed on top of the pilings.

Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society announced today that the Board of Directors approved $20,000 for the Lakes District Film Appreciation Society Beacon Façade project. 

The Beacon Theatre has the distinction of being one of only a handful of community-owned theatres in BC.
